Rescuers have evacuated villages in the Peloponnese as fires threatened to engulf them. Residents in Frixa in western Peloponnese were airlifted to safety by helicopters after being cut off by fire and thick black smoke.

I was traveling on the highways around the Twin Cities this evening, but on I494 and I694. Saw the report of bridge collapse on electric billboard on the return trip home around 8pm.

Early Wednesday morning, June 28, 2006, Interstate 88 in Sidney, NY, collapsed following heavy rains. Two truck drivers were killed, one in each direction, when they drove into the chasm.
